Roots of Italian haute couture

Today is the 100th birthday of Micol Fontana, co-founder (together with her sisters Zoe and Giovanna) of “Sorelle Fontana Alta Moda Srl”, an italian maison specialized in haute couture.

Based in Rome, in the famous Piazza di Spagna, this maison reached a great success after World War II, and created dresses that were worn by many Hollywood stars, and famous people.

“Sorelle Fontana” (sisters Fontana) contributed to the success of the Italian fashion in the world, paving the way to the Italian stylists of the following years.

Hereunder a taste of their beautiful creations. In the order, dress created for: Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Elisabeth Taylor, Maria G. di Savoia, Princess Soraya, Grace Kelly, and the wedding dress for Linda Christian.
